Andrea "Andy" Viviano
Age: 35
Physical Description:
Andy is beautiful and she knows it. Long black hair, gray eyes, and Italian complexion, she has high cheek bones and a very angular look to her face. She is tall, around 5’7”, thin and fit, built more like a fashion model than a cop. She loves to wear designer labels and will rarely wear casual clothing. Usually, her smile is sarcastic and she has the perfect imperious eyebrow raise.
Background:
Andrea “Andy” Viviano was born in Hell’s Kitchen to Joseph and Maria Viviano. Their second child, Andy was always slightly ignored because her brother was the favored son. She spent most of her early life learning how to be a house wife from her mother. With this tutelage she was excellent at cooking and piano at a relatively young age. As Andy got older, she spent more time with her Uncle Johnny, who is the black sheep of the Viviano family and the first person to give Andy her nickname. Andy’s mother disapproved of this relationship because Johnny is bookie and womanizer. This created a rift between Andy and her mother that continued to grow as Andy got older.
Under her Uncle’s influence, Andy learned many slight of hand tricks and gambling scams. She was nearly expelled from her middle school for running a card game. This led to her father taking her to visit their neighbor, who was a cop. He told Andy about all the dangers that sort of behavior could get her into and tried to set her on the straight and narrow. Fascinated with the stories he told her, much like the stories of her uncle, Andy started thinking seriously about police work. Her mother wanted an entirely different path for Andy, and the two continued to fight all the way until Andy graduated a local community college with a degree in Liberal Arts. Going against her mother’s wishes Andy entered the Academy and became a cop.
Her police career was entirely unremarkable until she was promoted to the Robbery Unit after five years on the streets. She was partnered with Detective Doug Reynard, a five year veteran of the squad and the two developed a strong friendship. One day, Doug let Andy in on a little secret, that he and five other detectives in the squad were selling stolen goods behind the departments back and claiming the investigations led nowhere. He offered a chance to join the ring and make a little more money. Andy was appalled, but agreed. Two days after Doug let her in on his secret, she let IAB in on it too and began working undercover for them. She spent two years gathering evidence against Doug and the other detectives before IAB made any arrests. She publicly testified against the other detectives and got a lot of press for her actions.
Because her old squad no longer trusted her, IAB ordered Andy transferred to Homicide and made her a second grade Detective. She has a slight chip on her shoulder from the treatment of her old squad and though she refused to work for IAB again, she’s convinced they’re going to call on her again.
Personality:
Andy is a charmer and flirt with a sharp tongue and a quick wit. She's outspoken and bold, sometimes coming off as rude and abrasive. She takes her job seriously. She's passionate about victims and justice, but often gets focused on one suspect and forgets others. She has a soft spot for her Uncle, even though he's a bookie and connected to organized crime. She doesn’t tolerate any sort of corruption from other officers, however. She's a cynic about most things and sees the world as generally bad with spots of good. She does believe every problem has a solution, if you look hard enough.
She likes the rich things in life, designer labels, high end food, and fancy jewelry. She’s rarely able to afford these things however and usually settles for good looking knock offs. She’s a fan of jazz music and oldies, but rarely likes anything modern. Piano is her favorite as she knows how to play it. Hates corrupt cops, bullies and abusers, especially those of the emotional kind. While she enjoys her work, it’s more of a mental game to her, who’s the smarter one, cops or criminal.
Traits, Weaknesses, Quirks:
Andy’s confidence comes off as arrogance at times, and she has a hard time handling blows to her pride and ego. Her temper never runs hot, but cold and calculating. When she’s nervous she covers it up with flirting and sarcasm, but will drum her fingers in some fashion which gives her away. She’s become an outsider in the police force ever since she turned on her old squad, and has taken to staying distant from her partners out of the fear no one would want to work with her any way. She just wants to catch the bad guys and go home at the end of the day and never wants to have to turn in another squad again.
